ABOUT PSYCHOTHERAPY

Psychotherapy can feel a bit scary and uncomfortable as it is a place where feelings can be felt, difficulties are discussed, and vulnerabilities may get exposed. Finding the right person to work through heartfelt issues is therefore most important. It may be anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or a form of trauma that keeps you stuck. Working through your problems within a therapeutic environment can provide a place of safety, empowerment, better understanding, and new beginnings.

I personally see psychological treatment not only as an opportunity to work through difficulties. To me, it is first and foremost a place where change happens in whatever shape or form. It is a place where greater understanding of oneself is gained and new personal potential can be discovered. I always acknowledge that psychotherapy is hard work as it asks one to look into the mirror and to take stock, assume responsibility, and commit to a workable process of changing the status quo for the better. It is therefore a place of commitment and accountability within a safe setting that works at a suitable pace.

I am committed to walk alongside all my clients to help them find themselves and their true potential.

ABOUT ME

I am what one would call a Skiwi: A Swiss girl born in Bern (Capital of Switzerland) who once decided to make a big change for herself and travel for an extensive period. During that time even bigger changes came along when I met my kiwi husband and we decided to settle together in New Zealand. I have experienced great privilege as well as lots of heartache, loss, and difficulties. I have faced big challenges and continue to do so as I believe in life being about self-discovery through hard work and success as much as painful experiences to find inner peace and happiness. I am very committed to my work and further learning not least of all from all my clients.

I am grounded in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) as probably most clinicians in New Zealand are. However, since my initial training I have done a lot of professional development in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), trauma specific therapy approaches, Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).  I continue my training in some of these therapy approaches and add new ones as I go along to deliver the best care possible for my clients. I therefore use an integrative approach with different evidence-based psychotherapies to remain client centred and holistic.

I am an ACC approved provider for the ACC psychological services contract and integrated services for sensitive claims. I also do ACC related assessment work and treatment in limited capacity for QE Health Ltd. in Rotorua and I accept any private referrals including primary health care. More recently I have also started to work with couples.

SERVICES

Individual therapy: For adults and adolescents using a range of evidence-based approaches.

Couples therapy: To identify behavioural patterns that create dissatisfaction, hurt, and disconnection within a relationship. I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which is an attachment-based approach and regarded as the gold standard therapy for couples’ work. It addresses surface level emotions (secondary emotions) and connected behaviours as well as underlying emotions (primary emotions) that eventually help understand behaviours leading to deeper connections and long lasting satisfaction.

I am an ACC approved provider for the ACC psychological services contract and integrated services for sensitive claims.
